About the Department

The Department of Undergraduate Legal Studies offers programs that build a strong foundation in legal knowledge, constitutional values, justice, governance, and professional practice. The department offers B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), and LL.B. programs, each designed to prepare learners for diverse pathways in litigation, corporate law, public policy, legal research, civil services, and emerging areas of legal practice.

The B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) program integrates law with the social sciences, helping learners understand the relationship between law, society, politics, economics, and public life. The B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) program brings together legal education and management studies, preparing learners for careers in corporate legal practice, business regulation, compliance, and commercial law. The LL.B. program offers a focused legal education for graduates seeking to enter the legal profession with strong conceptual and practical grounding.

Through classroom learning, moot court practice, legal research, internships, case analysis, clinical engagement, and experiential learning, the department encourages critical thinking, persuasive communication, ethical reasoning, and problem-solving. With a focus on academic rigour and real-world relevance, it nurtures future legal professionals who can interpret law with clarity, argue with conviction, and understand the larger role of justice in a changing world.

The department builds a clear understanding of constitutional law, criminal law, contract law, family law, jurisprudence, administrative law, and other core areas that shape legal education.

Through moot courts, legal drafting, case analysis, court visits, client counselling, and simulated legal exercises, learners gain practical exposure to how law works beyond the classroom.

The academic approach encourages learners to interpret statutes, analyse judgments, construct arguments, and develop the reasoning skills required for legal practice, research, and public service.

The department connects law with society, business, technology, governance, policy, and human rights, helping learners understand legal issues in a broader real-world context.

With emphasis on ethics, advocacy, research, communication, and professional readiness, the department nurtures graduates who can contribute meaningfully to courts, firms, corporations, policy spaces, and civil society.
