We advance rigorous, systematic, and evidence-based research across three interconnected and evolving domains: public policy, sustainability, and ESG. Our Centre focuses on emerging and complex policy challenges by bringing together interdisciplinary expertise from academia, corporates, policy think tanks, governments, and civil society organisations.
Our work is grounded in the understanding that sustainability is deeply contextual. As defined by the United Nations Brundtland Commission in 1987, sustainability is about meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. While the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a shared global framework, their achievement depends on how effectively they are embedded within social, cultural, economic, and political realities. Persistent challenges such as poverty, inequality, and exclusion continue to pose risks to SDG progress — making inclusive, locally grounded policy design essential.
Within this context, ESG has emerged as a critical framework for aligning economic growth with social responsibility and environmental stewardship. Although the concept has evolved over decades — from socially responsible Investing to corporate social responsibility – it gained global…
responsibility — it gained global prominence in 2004 through the UNEP FI report Who Cares Wins. Despite increasing adoption, ESG reporting and implementation remain at a nascent stage, particularly within India’s MSME sector, which forms the backbone of the national economy. Addressing climate risk, social equity, and governance gaps requires robust transition strategies, due diligence, and strong policy coherence.
