We provide access to a wide range of fabrication, testing, and prototyping tools — from 3D printers and CNC machines to IoT kits and advanced electronics workstations — supporting students, researchers, startups, and external innovators alike. Applied Physics (UG Program Support)

Our Centre of Excellence supports the Applied Physics undergraduate program by integrating fundamental scientific concepts with emerging technologies and practical engineering applications. Through this approach, we create a learning pathway that moves from theoretical foundations to hands-on experimentation and innovation.

Certification

We conduct specialised certification programs designed to strengthen practical engineering and research skills. One such program is the Hands-on Embedded Systems and IoT Prototyping Bootcamp, conducted in collaboration with IEEE Student Branch, IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE), and Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC).

Research Scope and Thesis Opportunities

Our project explores the electric-field-induced control of magnetization in ferromagnetic-based field effect transistor (FET) structures, addressing key challenges in spintronic device development. The research bridges fundamental physics and device engineering, offering strong potential for high-impact publications and doctoral-level research contributions.

PhD Progression and Research Training

As part of this project, a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) has been recruited and is being actively mentored within a structured research framework. The fellow is encouraged to transition into a full-time PhD program, with the objective of developing a comprehensive doctoral thesis based on the outcomes of this funded research.

Tenure and PhD Progression

The Junior Research Fellow is supported through a structured and mentored research framework and is encouraged to transition into a full-time PhD program. Hackathons and Competitions

Encouraging Innovation Through Technical Challenges

At our Centre, we encourage students to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges through hands-on technical events and participation in prestigious national and international competitions. These initiatives strengthen technical skills, teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and industry readiness while providing valuable exposure to global innovation ecosystems.

1. Hands-on Training on Smorphi and Smorphi2 Robots

Date: 25 January 2025
Type: Organised by CoE–Makerspace

This hands-on robotics training program engaged 10 students in assembling, programming, and operating Smorphi and Smorphi2 modular robots. The session covered safety protocols, hardware assembly using the lock-in mechanism, Bluetooth-based software configuration, and basic programming concepts.

Students successfully controlled the robots through mobile applications, gaining practical exposure to robotics systems, hardware–software integration, and teamwork. The training fostered creativity, confidence, and enthusiasm for advanced robotics and innovation.

As part of the university orientation program, nearly 1,000 first-year BTech students visited our CoE makerspace and additive manufacturing facilities. The program included laboratory walkthroughs, demonstrations of FDM, DLP, and SLS 3D printing technologies, and presentations on ongoing student and faculty projects.

This interaction introduced students to real-world applications of additive manufacturing, electronics, and embedded systems, inspiring curiosity and encouraging early engagement in innovation, research, and entrepreneurship.

Type: External Competition (Student Participation)

A team of nine students participated in a 24-hour national-level robothon under the guidance of Dr Harinath Aireddy. Students designed and developed a line-follower robot within stringent time constraints, addressing challenges in sensor calibration, motor control, stability, and optimisation.

The competition strengthened hands-on robotics skills, critical thinking, teamwork, and resilience while providing valuable peer interaction and industry exposure.

Our students achieved international recognition by competing against 52 teams from six countries. Under the mentorship of Dr Harinath Aireddy, the team secured:

Participants demonstrated advanced skills in AI-based robot programming, autonomous navigation, QR code scanning, and system optimisation, gaining valuable global exposure to emerging trends in robotics and artificial intelligence.

Students presented a smart home automation solution designed to reduce energy consumption using ESP32-based sensing and control. The project aligned with multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasising clean energy and responsible consumption. 

While the solution secured 1st place at the international level for its practical relevance, sustainability focus, and innovative approach.

Alliance University participated with 12 registered teams representing BTech, BBA, MBA, and PhD programs. Of these, 9 teams successfully completed national-level registration through the AICTE portal. The boot camp highlighted the university’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation, while providing students with exposure to structured ideation and competitive evaluation.

The CoE–Makerspace team showcased four TRL-6 projects, including:

The exhibits attracted over 150 visitors from academia, industry, and government institutions, creating opportunities for future research collaborations and technology translation.

Led by Dr Harinath Aireddy, the Makerspace team showcased several student-developed innovations including smart healthcare devices, robotics systems, and IoT solutions.

Our Makerspace exhibited near-market-ready products (TRL 6–7) that attracted more than 1,000 visitors from startups, industry, R&D organisations, and academia. The exhibition generated strong interest in commercialisation opportunities, internships, and collaborative research.

Type: National Hackathon

Students developed an IoT-based Vital Sign Monitoring Device under the theme Remote Patient Monitoring. Although not finalists, participants gained valuable experience in rapid prototyping, technical pitching, and high-pressure problem solving.

Type: National Competition

Selected among the top 50 teams from over 500 entries, Alliance University students presented Blink Tracker, an IR sensor-based healthcare assistive device. The competition strengthened students’ technical articulation, leadership, and innovation capabilities, while offering interaction with industry experts including senior leaders from Siemens.

This flagship innovation competition brought together 116 students from 18 institutions to develop functional prototypes addressing real-world challenges.

Organised under the coordination of Dr Harinath Aireddy, the event encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration, mentorship-driven innovation, and hands-on problem solving. Winners received cash prizes of ₹50,000, ₹30,000, and ₹20,000, marking the event as a major success in fostering student-led innovation.
