Brief Overview

Master of Performing Arts – MPA

The contribution of performing arts to our country’s rich cultural heritage has opened avenues for professionals to enrich the landscape through a plethora of career opportunities in music, dance, and theatre. In accordance with this, Alliance School of Performing, Visual and Creative Arts through the Master of Performing Arts programme prepares artistes for the contemporary performing arts landscape. Through a meticulously crafted pedagogy designed to enrich performing arts education in India, the programme covers philosophy, tradition, values, art, science, culture, and religions of India – contributing to holistic development in all areas.

Currently, the University is also concentrating on collaborating with universities abroad for short-term and semester exchange programmes and introducing Indian performing arts to foreign students. Much of fostering well-being for the mind and body involves delving into the rich culture, traditions, and techniques of Indian arts, particularly within the realm of Bharatanatyam. Our aim is to cultivate the upcoming generation of dancers by offering comprehensive classes, interdisciplinary workshops, and engaging productions.

Develop as a professional performer—encompassing roles such as dancer, musician, or actor—exemplifying strong ethical standards and superior communication abilities. Graduates will be adept in various aspects of the performing arts industry, demonstrating excellence both in performance and professional interactions. Additionally, they will acquire competencies in art management, equipping them to effectively oversee performances, events, and organizational projects. "

Research and Analytical Skills
Engage in research within prestigious institutions and organizations at both national and international levels. Students will gain expertise in analysing a spectrum of techniques pertinent to the performing arts, as well as rhetorical strategies employed in performance texts. They will investigate the interplay between these strategies, audience engagement, purpose, and cultural contexts. Furthermore, students will be trained in cultural advocacy, enabling them to effectively promote and preserve cultural heritage through both theoretical and practical approaches. "

Entrepreneurial and Artepreneurial Acumen
Establish and manage institutions such as dance studios or cultural organizations, and function as entrepreneurs or artepreneurs. Graduates will develop the skills necessary to innovate and execute new projects and choreographic works, thereby contributing to the expansion and diversification of the performing arts sector. Proficiency in art management, including strategic planning and operational oversight, will also be emphasized, along with the ability to advocate for the arts within diverse cultural contexts. "

Commit to lifelong learning and continuous professional development by enhancing skill sets in response to dynamic environmental changes and emerging advancements in the field. Knowledge of Performing Arts
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Performing Arts, including World Dance History, Art History, Tangible and Intangible Heritage, Dance History, and Cultural History, to address complex issues across various domains of life sciences, with particular emphasis on cultural, societal, and anthropological concerns. "

Problem Analysis
Identify, formulate, and analyze challenges within the Performing Arts, encompassing technical aspects, ancient Sanskrit treatises, movement analysis, historical timelines, Indian cultural heritage, and diverse branches of art and architecture.

Investigation of Complex Problems
Conduct thorough investigations into complex issues in the Performing Arts through research-based methodologies, including experimental design, data analysis, and synthesis of information, to derive well-supported conclusions."

Design and Creation of Choreography and Art Projects
Develop, design, compose, choreograph, and critically evaluate dance choreography, music compositions, or theatrical projects with a professional and innovative approach

Modern Tool Usage
Employ appropriate techniques, resources, and modern technologies in theatre, dance, and music productions to enhance audience engagement and experience

Ethical Practice
Adhere to ethical principles and uphold professional standards, responsibilities, and norms within the field of Performing Arts.

Individual and Team Work
Effectively perform and collaborate as an individual and as a member or leader in multidisciplinary teams, demonstrating the ability to contribute to and lead collaborative efforts.
