About the Department

Through our ethos, curriculum, and program offerings, the Department of Fine Arts engages students in highly experiential learning, building expertise and experimentation through critique, process, and concept. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Painting and Sculpture is a four-year professional undergraduate program designed for aspiring artists passionate about exploring and mastering traditional and contemporary art practices. This course provides a rigorous and dynamic curriculum that fosters creativity, technical proficiency, and critical thinking through hands-on studio work and theoretical engagement. Students begin with foundational courses in drawing, design, and art history, and gradually progress to specialized training in painting and sculpture. The program nurtures individual expression while grounding students in the principles of form, material, composition, and conceptual development. With access to well-equipped studios and mentoring by experienced faculty, students experiment with a range of media, from oils, acrylics, and watercolors to clay, wood, metal, and mixed media installations.

The program emphasises hands-on practice, experimentation, critique, and portfolio development, allowing students to refine both skill and imagination.

Students explore how art reflects identity, culture, history, politics, and contemporary life, helping them create work with meaning and context.

The department focuses on building communication, analytical thinking, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills essential for early-career success.

Graduates can pursue careers as visual artists, illustrators, designers, art educators, curators, art directors, gallery professionals, animators, or creative entrepreneurs.

Students learn core areas such as drawing, painting, composition, colour theory, sculpture, printmaking, digital art, and visual communication.
