With over 1,100 universities<\/strong> and 40 million students, the challenge is no longer about expanding access; it is about achieving self-reliance<\/strong>, innovation<\/strong>, and employability<\/strong> to a global standard<\/strong>. The India Skills Report 2025 presents a mixed picture: while Kerala records an employability rate<\/strong> of 90.94%, other regions lag, exposing disparities in academic quality and skill preparedness<\/strong>. Bridging these divides is essential if India is to emerge as a true knowledge superpower<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From Degree Factories to Global Knowledge Creators<\/strong><\/p>\n

The National Education Policy (NEP 2020)<\/strong> is India\u2019s most ambitious education reform<\/strong> yet, urging universities<\/strong> to blend Indian ethos<\/strong> with global competitiveness<\/strong>. Complementing it, the National Research Foundation (NRF)<\/strong> seeks to foster a vibrant research ecosystem<\/strong> and make India an international hub for innovation<\/strong> and intellectual property. Yet, challenges remain. According to the Economic Survey 2023-24, India\u2019s R&D spending<\/strong> stands at just 0.64% of GDP, far below China\u2019s 2.4% and the U.S.\u2019s 3.5%. Moreover, only 36% of India\u2019s research funding<\/strong> comes from the private sector, compared with ~75% in the U.S. and China. This imbalance stunts the progress of Indian universities<\/strong> toward becoming global knowledge creators<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
